Some of the software below may not be officially supported by OIT for use on UT Arlington inventoried computers. Some of the software is only supported by the Help Desk for student use. Before installing any of the following software on a UT Arlington inventoried computer, first check that it is on the Supported Software list.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 7
Internet Explorer 7 is the set of core Web browsing technologies in Windows XP. This package has settings appropriate to the UTA environment. It will migrate all current settings for users of IE 6.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6
Internet Explorer 6 is the set of core Web browsing technologies in Windows XP. This file is only a preliminary download.  It will need to be opened after downloading and will then connect to Microsoft to download and install all files required.

Mozilla Firefox
Mozilla Firefox (originally known as "Phoenix" and briefly as "Mozilla Firebird") is a free, open-source, cross-platform, graphical web browser developed by the Mozilla Foundation.

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is an update to Windows Vista. SP1 addresses specific reliability and performance issues, supports new types of hardware, and adds support for several emerging standards.  SP1 is required for all UTA inventoried computers running Windows Vista.

VPN

VPN stands for Virtual Private Networking.  It creates an encrypted secure tunnel from the client to the VPN concentrator installed at the edge of the campus network.  This secure tunnel allows the user to check e-mail, pass data files back and forth, and perform other transactions as if they were actually on the campus without the fear of the data being exploited while traveling over the Internet. This download will work for both Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems. See setup instructions.

Fugu is a graphical front end to the command line Secure File Transfer application (SFTP). SFTP is similar to FTP, but unlike FTP, the entire session is encrypted, meaning no passwords are sent in cleartext form, and is thus much less vulnerable to third-party interception. Goliath

Goliath is an application that creates and edits websites. It uses a technology called WebDAV (frequently called Web Folders) to make changes to the files stored on web servers. It was the first application to implement WebDAV on the Macintosh. See usage instructions.
